Mayku

Mayku has brought pressure forming to the desktop with the new Mayku Multiplier. With the success of their FormBox, the Multiplier is the next generation of desktop manufacturing.

The Beta team created a range of consumer accessories that were prototyped using the Multiplier to showcase the possibilities for designers and makers.

Design For Manufacture
The Brief

Working alongside Mayku, we produced designs for three consumer electronic products.

The team chose to design a mechanical keyboard case, mouse, and webcam to convey how intricate and detailed the parts can be, produced by the Multiplier. The products have been created with the ‘maker’ in mind. Using a customisable shell that can be quickly swapped and multiplied to test different textures and finishes.

Prototyping

The Beta team prototyped the products using a combination of 3D printing and pressure forming moulds.

Each mould takes less than five minutes to make and is immediately ready to work with. The Multiplier picks up intricate surface detail making it an excellent application for experimenting with textures in moulds.

Colour, Material and Finish

Beta used different CMF finishes to highlight the functionality of the multiplier for makers and designers alike.

The Multiplier allows creators to test ideas rapidly and without outsourcing, working with a variety of sheet materials to keep costs low and creativity flowing. Quick, affordable, 2mm moulds can be tested immediately before committing to making a flexible mould on the same machine or opting for a 5mm+ sheet to create injection mould quality enclosures.

Shorter Lead Times

Outsourcing custom mould designs or prototype parts can be a lengthy process. Back and forth on design drafts and then up to 12 weeks before a mould or part is ready to work with.

With the Mayku Multiplier, you can go from idea to finished mould or part in 48 hours. Shorter lead times mean greater sales potential for your business and improved productivity.
