The Moon Carrier was conceived for Goodwoof’s Barkitecture 2024 under the theme “Travelling in Style,” to be auctioned off for charity by Bonhams. The aim was to reinvent how pets travel - blending futuristic design, comfort, and high-end aesthetics. Think of it as the marriage between space pod and electric motorcycle, designed to elevate both form and function in pet transport.
The brief called for a kennel that would offer style and comfort both on the road and at rest, aligning with the curated environment of Goodwoof. Beta Design Office collaborated with Sebastian Conran, responding by creating a vehicle with three configurable states: fully open for indoor use, a cabriolet mode for sunshine, and a closed shell for rainy rides. The architecture centers on an aluminum monocoque frame, overlaid with Alcantara-upholstered cushioning and topped with a retractable ripstop nylon roof, held taut by stainless-steel tension rods and quick-release latches.
A key engineering challenge was integrating the carrier with the BMW CE04 EV motorcycle, so it needed to blend seamlessly with the bike’s pillion seat curvature. Beta partnered with Get It Made, a London-based specialist in CNC, 3D printing, injection moulding, custom extrusions, and die-casting, to realise the design in high-precision parts. Iterative prototyping refined proportions, ergonomics, and structural integrity, while finishing work included bead-blasting and clear anodizing for a premium, consistent surface treatment
The final Moon Carrier offers a truly unique pet-transport experience. It shifts between open, semi-open, and enclosed configurations, accommodating varied weather and moods. Its strong aluminum monocoque structure ensures safety, while the plush interior delivers comfort. The design seamlessly integrates with its host motorcycle, delivering an object that is as much a design statement as a functional mobility solution for the modern pet owner.
