Joseph Joseph wanted to reinvent the pizza cutter, a tool that’s barely changed in decades, to address the frustrations people encounter every pizza night. Most cutters are awkward to clean, unsafe to store, uncomfortable in the hand, and hog space in the drawer. The challenge was to design a cutter that’s compact, safe, and satisfying to use, while still feeling premium enough to earn a spot in the modern kitchen.

We started with ergonomics. Using SLA and FDM prototypes, we tested handle shapes and angles, and blade placement to find the sweet spot for comfort and control. Focus groups helped us validate early ideas and guided us toward the 45° cutting angle to give a natural wrist position and plenty of clearance for smooth slicing. The non-cylindrical handle form was designed to lock securely in the hand, even when oily or wet, and shaped so the cutter could handle more than just pizza.

The second focus was cleaning and safety. Early prototypes trialled different locking and release systems until we landed on a simple slide mechanism that detaches the blade without tools. We colour-marked the release point to guide the user, making it intuitive at a glance. Each iteration was tested for blade retention, ease of reassembly, and safe handling, ensuring the design solved not just the cutting problem but the post-dinner cleanup too.

The final Ringo™ Easy-Clean Pizza Cutter is a compact tool that works as well in the drawer as it does on the plate. The 45° angled blade gives precision and power, while the sculpted handle makes each slice smooth and controlled. The stainless-steel blade delivers a clean cut every time, and the ergonomic form makes it easy to use across different types of food.
When it’s time to clean, the blade pops out safely with a single slide, making washing and storage straightforward. A hanging hole offers an alternative storage option for kitchens tight on space. More than just a pizza cutter, Ringo™ is a tool designed to turn a once-frustrating object into something reliable, versatile, and genuinely satisfying to own.
